The addition of glass fiber greatly enhances mechanical performance, particularly flexural strength, while keeping the material easy to process. It strikes an ideal balance between strength and printability. Mechanical and Thermal Performance Thanks to its reinforced structure, PET-GF15 achieves a bending strength of around 104 MPa and can withstand temperatures up to 133 °C after annealing. This combination of stiffness and heat resistance makes it ideal for applications where structural integrity is crucial. Even after exposure to heat treatment, dimensional changes remain minimal, ensuring consistent results for precision parts. Printing and Processing Despite being fiber-reinforced, PET-GF15 prints smoothly on most enclosed or semi-enclosed 3D printers. It performs best with a nozzle temperature between 280 °C and 310 °C and a heated bed around 70 °C to 80 °C. Cooling is typically not required, as the material benefits from gradual heat dissipation during printing. Because of its abrasive glass fiber content, a hardened nozzle is strongly recommended to prevent wear. The filament should also be kept dry, ideally below 20% relative humidity, for optimal performance. Annealing is optional but can improve heat resistance for parts exposed to temperatures above 80 °C. Surface Quality and Compatibility Compared to other reinforced filaments, PET-GF15 provides a notably smooth surface finish with less visible fiber texture. It is also compatible with AMS and other multi-material printing systems, allowing for efficient workflows that combine strength with aesthetic quality. Applications This material is particularly well-suited for functional parts that need to endure mechanical stress or elevated temperatures.
