Select models have a high-performance heavy-duty Hot Shot series version made with a special Mosfet technology that does not get hot (as noted). There are two different stators listed for Sportsman 400/500 '04 (depending on the model). The way to tell the difference is by the number of poles; this is an 18-pole stator.
